GENERAL DESCRIPTION

The Shipping Lead is primarily responsible for coordinating all inbound and outbound operations and activities of workers engaged in verifying and keeping records on incoming and outgoing shipments.

They will set a high standard for safety, quality and on-time delivery and will actively participate in and promote continuous improvement everyday within our warehouse.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBLITIES

  • Coordinates labor preplan with the Warehouse Manager daily

  • Loads and unloads trucks and ensures every shipping and receiving function is completed correctly

  • Inspects all staged orders for accuracy when required

  • Directs labor on needs to meet truck appointments

  • Assists with shipping and packing activity to meet volume demands when required

  • Operates forklift and other machinery needed to transport heavy items around the warehouse when required

  • Overseeing, directing and training Warehouse Associates as required

  • Performs administrative duties: answering phones, updating records and providing excellent customer service

  • Takes accurate inventory

  • Maintains quality service by following organization standards

  • Maintains safe and clean work environment by maintaining clean shipping area; complying with procedures, rules, and regulations

  • Reports any issues with shipping or receiving to the Warehouse Manager

  • Carry out tasks as assigned by the Warehouse Manager

EXPECTATIONS

  • Must be able to carry at least 50lbs occasionally and perform a variety of physical activities such as lifting and carrying
  • Able to work in extremely warm and cold environments
  • Flexibility to adapt to changing work priorities, and to make quick and effective decisions
  • Work with all employees in a professional and respectful manner
  • Notify management immediately if anyone is operating with disregard for safety
  • Keep confidential information that could compromise competitive advantage, including but not limited to rate information, financial information, and operating procedures
SKILLS/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • 1 or more years of related experience in shipping and/or receiving or warehousing position
  • Flexibility to adapt to changing work priorities, and to make quick and effective decisions
  • Ability to mentor, train, motivate, direct and empower Warehouse Associates
  • Experience operating a forklift and other material handling equipment
  • Must have good communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Works well with others
  • Basic computer skills
EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

  • High school diploma or GED is required
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Frequently required to stand, walk and sit
  • Continually required to utilize hand and finger dexterity
  • Occasionally required to climb, balance, bend, stoop, kneel or crawl
  • Continually required to talk or hear
  • Occasionally work in high, precarious places
  • While performing the duties of this job, the noise level in the work environment is usually moderate
  • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move more than 25 pounds
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job: Close vision; Distance vision; Color vision; Peripheral vision; Depth perception and ability to adjust focus
  • Work environment - warehouse, where temperature changes with the season
  • Specialized equipment, machines, or vehicles used: Forklifts (rare), pneumatic conveying equipment
